NASS Scientific Funding
In order to promote scientific and technological progress and exchange, and strengthen the management of scientific funding under the Nan Yang Academy of Sciences (NASS), researcher advisors working in collaboration with the NASS would be able to submit their funding requirements via the Research Project Application Form. Applications will undergo evaluation by the NASS Review Committee, and approved Research Projects will receive funding from the Research Grant.
1 Source of Funding
1.1 The NASS is supported by BEST (International) Group Co. Limited, which currently provides to the NASS Scientific Foundation, a sponsorship of approximately USD 200,000 annually in order to promote the development of outstanding research projects. This funding will be increased in the future.

2 Research Funding Management
2.1 The NASS Review Committee (based in Singapore) will be responsible for the macro-management and evaluation of research projects, as well as other important issues. The NASS Project Management Committee will be responsible for the review, implementation and follow-up of projects.
2.2 Funding is generally fixed at USD10-15 thousand per research project but ultimately funding amount will be on a case by case basis.
3 Application for Research Funding

3.3 Review of Research Projects
3.3.1 Funding and support is determined by: expert input, fairness and reasonableness, and factors such as:
a. Innovative ideas, clear research objectives, reasonable research methods, technical routes and overall feasibility of research project
b. High standards and reliable scheduling should be managed by researchers

c. Suitability of project in the funding scope of the Scientific Research Fund
d. Standard of research vis-à-vis similar research
e. Research capabilities and basic research conditions required to implement the research project

h. Applicants’ progress based on past funded projects
5 Implementation and Management of Projects
5.1 Upon the approval of a research topic, an agreement needs to be signed as a basis for grants and inspections.
5.2 Submission of a Summary Report, including the name of the project, research direction, experimental design, sample collection and data
analysis.
5.3 While the NASS encourages the Research Team to engage in continuous innovation in research, the changing of plans, research contents, and the suspension of plans must be accompanied by a written report which must be first reviewed and signed by the NASS Expert Panel. Applications for time extension shall not exceed 2 months; else project will be deemed to be incomplete, and will be dealt with as such.
5.4 NASS reserves the right to suspend or cancel projects that are difficult to implement or obtain results.
5.5 Head of the research team must complete the Annual Scientific Research Funding Project Progress Report (referred to as the Progress Report) every 2 months until the project is completed.
5.6 Funding will be revoked if research team does not submit the Progress Report on time, do not carry out serious research work, or misuse allocated funds.
5.7 NASS reserves the right to revoke allocated funding if the head of the research team is unable to continue the project due to personal or other reasons.
6 Conclusion of Project; Rewards and Penalties
6.1 upon the completion of the research project, the head of the research project will have to submit a report detailing the conclusion of the research project. Content should include a summary of research work, catalogue of research results, published papers, or a list of completed works and financial statements of scientific research projects (in 2 copies).
6.2 Resulting research papers, monographs, and appraisal materials should be marked as “Funded by the Nan Yang Academy of Sciences”. If intellectual property rights were obtained, ownership shall be attributed to the Nan Yang Academy of Sciences.
6.3 In cases in which the project is cancelled, stopped, or unable to be executed, NASS has the right to notify the Finance Department to stop all funding. Affected researchers will not be able to reapply for a period of 3 years. The balance of the allocated funds will be returned to the Scientific Research Fund, and the head of the research team will be penalized in cases of interception, embezzlement, and misuse of funds.
6.4 This Regulation shall be implemented as of 2018, and will be supervised and managed by the NASS Project Management Committee.
