Research objectives:
“Carbon-Neutral Built Environment via Multidisciplinary Sustainable Materials Innovation” is a convergence research initiative that targets net-zero whole-life carbon emissions of the built environment through the discovery, validation, and deployment of next-generation sustainable construction materials. By integrating materials science, architectural engineering, environmental systems analysis, data-driven optimisation, and socio-economic governance, the project will establish a scalable technology–policy–market framework that enables buildings and infrastructure to function as carbon sinks rather than sources over their entire life cycle. Deliverables include scientifically benchmarked low-carbon and carbon-negative material platforms, harmonised assessment protocols, and actionable transition pathways to inform international carbon-neutral strategies for the construction sector by 2050.
