Research objectives:

Dear Colleagues,

The maritime sector is undergoing a transformative shift as it navigates the twin imperatives of achieving decarbonisation while ensuring the long-term sustainability of our oceans. As global shipping accounts for approximately 3% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide and continues to grow, the urgent need for comprehensive decarbonisation strategies has never been more apparent. Beyond emissions, the health of our oceans is threatened by pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change impacts, all of which are intricately linked to maritime activities. The goal of this research project is to provide a multidisciplinary platform to support the transition towards a low-carbon and environmentally resilient blue economy. This research project aims to bring together innovative research, strategies, technologies, regulatory, societal dimensions and policy insights that advance both maritime decarbonisation and ocean sustainability.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, low-carbon marine fuels, green port strategies, ocean-based renewable energy, sustainable shipping, marine biodiversity protection, and integrated coastal and ocean management, sustainable operational practices, emerging innovations in renewable energy integration (e.g., offshore wind and floating solar), alternative marine fuels (e.g., hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, biofuels and, electric propulsion ), carbon capture technologies for marine applications, green shipping practices, and marine environmental protection.

We invite researchers, engineers, policy makers, and practitioners to contribute original research articles, reviews, case studies, and technical notes that explore emerging solutions to decarbonise maritime operations and promote United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to ocean conservation and climate action.

We welcome your submissions and look forward to your contributions.
